Lee Sun-ok Questions Why Jung Woo-sung is Being Held Responsible When Moon Ga-bi is Not a Minor
On November 26, writer Lee Sun-ok, who has gained support from young people in their 20s and 30s for her views on gender issues, posted on her social media, criticizing, “If the woman herself decides to give birth, how can anyone say she was made into a single mother?”
It is assumed that Lee Sun-ok posted this due to some of the articles about the birth of Jung Woo-sung and Moon Ga-bi’s child, which included phrases like “not even in a relationship” and “made a single mother.”
Lee Sun-ok stated, “The adult woman chose to give birth, so can we really say the man made her a single mother?” She continued, “A 35-year-old woman is not a brainwashed minor. How can anyone make her a single mother just by blaming someone?”
She also criticized, “When advocating for abortion rights, the argument is that a woman’s body is hers alone, and only the woman has the right to decide what happens to her body, whether it’s abortion or childbirth. But when the woman decides to raise the child, why is the man being blamed for making her a single mother even though they were never in a relationship?”
She added, “Wasn’t the call to include men in abortion law aimed at making them share responsibility after birth? Since Jung Woo-sung said he would take responsibility, there’s no need for these kinds of headlines.”
Lee Sun-ok concluded by saying, “Other people’s lives belong to them. It’s not for us to criticize or assign blame based on our own feelings. If anyone thinks this incident has made Moon Ga-bi’s life unhappy, they should take this as a lesson to be more careful with contraception in their own lives.”
Additionally, Democratic Party lawmaker Lee So-young commented, “Celebrities’ private lives are always a topic of interest, but I can’t quite understand why their decisions about whether to marry or not should become targets of criticism and judgment. The idea that one must marry and live as a couple, bearing all the responsibilities just because they had a child together, feels suffocating.”
Earlier, on November 22, Moon Ga-bi herself announced her pregnancy on social media. It was her first post in two years after abruptly halting her activities. She shared, “Because the news came so suddenly, I wasn’t prepared at all. Rather than fully enjoying the joy of pregnancy and the congratulations, I spent most of my pregnancy quietly surrounded by my family’s blessings,” which led to increased curiosity about the identity of the father.
Subsequent reports revealed that Jung Woo-sung was the father, and his agency, Artist Company, confirmed, “The child Moon Ga-bi revealed on SNS is indeed Jung Woo-sung’s biological child. Discussions are ongoing about the best way to raise the child, and as the father, Jung Woo-sung will take full responsibility.” However, it was reported that they have no plans to marry. Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Jung Woo-sung is dating another woman, which has further fueled the controversy surrounding his personal life.
